We are glad to announce a call for the 2022 Polisemie Essay Prize, which aims to promote excellent academic research on hyper-contemporary poetry in every language and from scholars at any stage of their career. Polisemie is an open access, peer reviewed journal published by University of Warwick Press with the objective of disentangling the complexity of the most recent practices of poetic writing.
All articles which have been submitted through the submission platform between the 1st of January and the 1st of October 2022 and have been accepted for publication on the journal will be considered for the competition. Articles can be written in English or Italian and will focus on 21st century poetry in any language. Essays on non-Italian poetry are very welcome.
The awarded article will receive a special mention, as well as a 500 € prize.
The submission will need to fulfil the requirements of the journal: in particular, the text is expected to comply with the journal guidelines and be of no less than 18.000 characters and no more than 40.000 characters (notes included, final bibliography excluded). The submissions will be evaluated on the basis of their innovative research, the soundness of their methodological approach, and their potential for the advancement of our current knowledge of poetic practices today. Reviewers will also evaluate the communication’s effectiveness, encouraging thorough organization of contents, appropriate division of the text into sections, accurate headings and signposting, and clear and communicative language. Eligibility and conditions
Articles are expected to be the outcome of original research, and should not be already published in any format, nor should they be under consideration for publication in other journals or monographs. Translations or minor reworkings of previously published works will not be considered eligible.
The publication process of eligible articles should be completed by the 28th of February 2023. Perspective applicants should consider that the review process may take several months: we therefore strongly advise early submissions.
Polisemie reserves the right not to award the prize should no appropriate submissions be entered. Decisions concerning the competition lie with the Polisemie editorial committee. Its decision is final and no correspondence will be entered into concerning the judging process.
Authors that at the time of submission are (or have been) members of the Editorial Team or of the Editorial board of Polisemie will not be considered for the award.
We regret to announce that, not having reached a minimum number of eligible submissions, Polisemie will not award the essay prize.
